Geometry POL questions!
What TOPICS have we covered in class this semester?
This semester we have done many projects once you think about it. For example, one project I really liked was learning about the Pythagorean theorem. Towards the beginning I wasn't very good at it but when we practiced more and more I got good at it. Another project we did was the triangles project. We were finding angles of a triangle and the area too. I never got really good at this though. We also did a project on pumpkins and we had to find the measurements of the pumpkin. We also learned about dimension and fractals. Recently we are practicing logic, it's a little challenging but its interesting. (logic notes)
What ACTIVITIES have we done in class this semester?
We have done some Activities in this class. Like POW's and Explorations. They are fairly hard sometimes they can get very challenging though. We have also had a discussion on the POW and exploration, which I think is cool and it helps us see how other people think/gives us new perspectives.
What topics or activities have you STRUGGLED with this semester?
This year I have struggled with the triangles. I was never really good at solving the equations we got. I think I could have practiced more and asked for help more often too. I was never really good with equations I would usually always skip a step or do something wrong. I also struggled a little with some POW's and explorations. They weren't really related to what we were learning (which was the purpose) but I struggled with them and it was hard to understand them sometimes because of the wording too. Like POW 8, I didn't know what I was supposed to do. Did I have to find out why they chose those prizes or how the teachers predicted those students would get those certain prizes? I don't know how to explain what I an thinking...
What topics have you MASTERED?
I would say I have mastered the Pythagorean theorem. After getting some practice I think I have gotten very good at it. For example lets use a random triangle: One side will be 9, another 15, and the last will be x. We need to solve for x. So the equation is A2+B2=C2
92+152=C2
81+225=√306
X or C=17.5
I feel pretty confident with this and I feel like a i'm very good at it, I just need more practice with my multiplication facts to get some answers with out using a calculator.
What activities HELPED you learn?
I would say that POW and exploration discussions helped me learn. seeing other peoples methods or ways of thinking have helped me as a learner to think more creatively. I don't mean class discussions but mini group discussions. When all of us get something different we work through it together, so its very helpful. When the majority of the group gets the same answer they walk through it with the people in the rest of the group members who got something else and I find that very helpful We have only done this ONCE but I think we should do them more often, very helpful!
